We left Sea-Tac at 8:40am on January 15th. This required us to get up super early and to wake Joey. Which I think could have caused some of his issues that morning. We made it to the airport with all of our gear and got checked in. Getting through security was not too bad except we had to get Joey out of his carseat and stroller and put that through the x-ray machine. They also had to do a test on his bottles. We must have passed as we got to take them on board. We ate some breakfast and then changed Joey into his flight gear.
The flight started out good as he slept through take off. When he woke he had a bottle and took another snooze. It was after he woke the second time that things went wrong. He started to scream causing the lady next to us to plug her ears. Nice huh? Oh well we got up with him and took him to be changed. After that he calmed down and the lady moved seats. So we ended up scoring the whole row which helped as Joey enjoyed lying on the middle seat and chatting. (For furture reference we have decided sitting in the very last row with kids is the best and hope to get the middle seat for him.) We arrived into Kona around 1pm Hawaii time. They are currently two hours behind us. We got to the rental car place and then headed to the house where we were staying. The house was great. Three bedrooms, living and dining rooms, a great kitchen, huge yard and pool. It was perfect for us. Then we headed to Walmart to get some stuff to get us through the night. After we got back from there, Mom, Dad, Annie, David and Kat had arrived. We had a mellow first night and went to bed early. Joey was up a few times during the night. It took him a bit of time to get adjusted to the new sleeping arrangement of the pack 'n play and the heat.
Saturday morning we lounged around and then headed to the pool. Joey experienced his first time swimming which he really enjoyed. Kat also loved the pool. The big surprise was how well Dad did in the pool for being a non swimmer. By the end of the trip he was kicking across the pool and doing crawl stroke. We were very proud of him. Hopefully the video I took will post ok in a later entry. We think he needs some more trips with a private pool and his private instructors to keep up his skills. So whenever you want to take that trip Papa Joe, Ann and I are happy to come to work with you.
Ann's friend Clare and her boyfriend Ryan were leaving Kona this day but were able to swing by the house and hang out with us for a few hours. This was Joey's first time meeting Clare. He liked her a lot. That night we went in to town and had dinner at Bubba Gump. It was very tasty.
